Why You Should Volunteer as a Youth Football Coach with RYFA

At the Rogers Youth Football Association (RYFA), we believe that football is more than just a game—it’s an opportunity to make a lasting impact on young lives. Volunteering as a Youth Football Coach provides a unique chance to be part of something bigger than yourself. Whether you’re an experienced coach or someone who simply loves the game, your involvement will shape the future of our players both on and off the field.

Here are a few reasons why you should consider becoming a coach with RYFA:

1. Make a Difference in a Young Athlete's Life

Coaching is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. As a coach, you’ll help players develop their skills, build confidence, and grow as individuals. You’ll teach valuable life lessons—such as teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship—that extend far beyond the football field. You could be the mentor that a young player looks up to and the positive influence that helps shape their future.

2. Foster a Love of the Game

Football is more than just a sport; it’s a passion. As a coach, you’ll help instill a lifelong love of the game in young players. Whether they go on to play at higher levels or simply enjoy the memories and friendships made through the sport, your coaching will be an integral part of their journey.

3. Build Strong Community Connections

By volunteering as a coach, you’ll become a key part of the local community. RYFA brings together families, friends, and neighbors, and as a coach, you’ll play a vital role in strengthening these relationships. You’ll form lasting connections with players, other coaches, and parents, all while contributing to a positive, supportive environment for everyone involved.

4. Develop Leadership Skills

Coaching isn’t just about teaching football—it’s about leading, mentoring, and guiding young athletes. As a coach, you’ll develop invaluable leadership and communication skills that can be applied in all aspects of life. Whether you’re leading a team, motivating a player, or organizing practices, your ability to inspire and manage will grow through the experience.

5. No Experience Required

At RYFA, we welcome volunteers of all experience levels. Whether you’ve coached before or are just getting started, we provide resources, training, and support to help you succeed. Our experienced coaching staff is always ready to help you develop your skills and provide guidance. All you need is a love for the game and a desire to make a difference.

6. Give Back to the Next Generation

Football gave many of us so much in terms of discipline, teamwork, and personal growth. Volunteering as a coach is a way to give back to the next generation of athletes. Your time and effort can help young players realize their potential and achieve things they never thought possible.

7. Create Lifelong Memories

The moments you share with your team—the highs, the lows, the victories, and the lessons learned—will stay with you forever. As a coach, you’ll be part of a team that creates memories that both you and your players will cherish for years to come.

History

In 2018, Congress passed The Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 (the SafeSport Act). The legislation is aimed at preventing and reporting child abuse in youth sports by expanding the categories of “mandatory reporters” and requiring organizations to provide enhanced training.

In addition to requiring training, the SafeSport Act also expands the definition of mandatory reporter to include any “adult who is authorized, by a national governing body, a member of the national governing body…to interact with a minor or amateur athlete at an amateur sports organization facility or at any event sanctioned by a national governing body, a member of a national governing body, or such an amateur sports organization.” RYFA urges all adults to understand their reporting obligations outlined below.
